Dermal Fillers in Layton, UT

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable products that a board-certified provider inserts into the soft tissue beneath the skin. There are a variety of dermal fillers used today, each of which may have slightly different characteristics. In general, soft tissue fillers are used to smooth away lines and creases and enhance the contours and definition of critical points of the face. Some work by tethering to water molecules in the skin. Some stimulate collagen production over time. When you visit our friendly office in Layton, UT, Dr. Jensen will introduce you to the dermal filler or fillers that may best meet your treatment goals.

If you're ready to schedule your visit to learn which dermal filler is right for you, contact us at 1 (801) 728 - 9555 today. We're ready to help you look and feel your best!

What Is the Difference Between Dermal Fillers and Neuromodulators?

Most people refer to injectables by their brand names. The most common neuromodulators are Botox and Dysport, both of which we can use to help you look refreshed. These products are referred to as neuromodulators because they work on the muscle tissue rather than the skin. Indirectly, neuromodulator injections can rejuvenate the face by smoothing dynamic wrinkles like frown lines, horizontal "worry" lines on the forehead, crow's feet, and other creases. When a neuromodulator is absorbed into muscle tissue, the nerve receptors cannot receive signals to contract. As the muscle relaxes, so does the overlying skin being pulled into a fold. Dermal fillers are injectable products and work within the skin. They are made of ingredients that increase tissue volume. For example, Juvederm dermal fillers, made of hyaluronic acid, increase volume by binding to water molecules, trapping them in a localized area for a period of time. Because dermal fillers and neuromodulators work in different ways, they are highly complementary treatments.

  • Radiesse
  • Kysse
  • Kybella

How Many Dermal Filler Sessions Will I Need?

For the most part, patients require just one treatment session to achieve their desired outcome. That said, some products work over time and multiple sessions. Kybella and Sculptra are two examples. Kybella is listed here with our other dermal fillers, but this injectable is actually a treatment for submental fullness, also known as a double chin. To eliminate a substantial amount of fat causing a double chin, you may need three to four appointments. Sculptra is not your average dermal filler. This product is designed to increase tissue volume through collagen stimulation. To achieve the desired outcome, we may schedule three to four sessions over several weeks.

How Does a Dermal Filler Treatment Work?

Dermal filler treatment works by building foundational support for the skin. The treatment process is performed in just a few minutes in our office. Before you receive dermal fillers, Dr. Jensen will sit with you to hear what you would like to improve about your appearance. He can then choose the most appropriate product to achieve your goals. After your consultation, you may be able to receive your injections immediately. There is no need for an anesthetic or numbing cream to get dermal fillers. Most products contain their own mild anesthetic. The doctor is also careful in his technique to avoid unnecessary discomfort.

How Long will my Dermal Filler Results Last?

Dermal filler results can last from several months to a few years. Your body will naturally break down the structure of the dermal filler product over time, at which point the original concern will gradually recur. Dr. Jensen can provide you with information regarding how often you may receive touch-ups based on the dermal filler used to accentuate your facial contours.

How Long After a Dermal Filler Treatment Session Will I See Results?

Depending on the treatment you select, you will see an improvement in tissue volume and definition immediately. Very minor swelling may exaggerate your initial results. However, this minor side effect should resolve by the day after your appointment.
