How long do Dermal Fillers and Injectables last?

Neuromodulators that act on muscles include Botox and Dysport. These injectables can last from 3 to 6 months. This may depend on the area treated and how much facial movement occurs. The body also has its own unique process for breaking down the active ingredients in various injectable products. Generally, patients can expect to schedule touch-ups about every 4 months.

Dermal fillers are different in terms of duration because there are so many different products. Dermal fillers that are softer and smoother for the lips may last 6 to 12 months. More structural dermal fillers that are used for areas like the cheeks, jawline, and under the eyes, may last up to 2 years.

When you visit us for injectable treatment, your provider can discuss the expected results and longevity of your injectables based on the products you select.

Are Injectables permanent?

No. The types of injectables that we use in our offices are not permanent. The advantage of temporary results is that the more conservative technique can be easier to manage. If you don’t love your results, you don’t have to live with them for long. Generally, Botox and Dysport wrinkle-reduction lasts about 4 months. Dermal fillers can last from a few months to 2 years. Factors that influence how long injectable results last include the type of injectable received, the body’s natural breakdown of a product, and sun exposure. Injectable treatments can be easily repeated as needed a few times a year to maintain outstanding effects.

Who is the Candidate for Injectables and Fillers?

Many adults aged 18 and over are good candidates for injectable treatments. Neuromodulators and dermal fillers are not reserved solely for anti-aging treatments. Yes, they are commonly used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. However, injectable treatments also help bring more contour and interest to the face. Patients who are in good general health and are not pregnant, nursing, allergic to ingredients in injectable products, or have certain autoimmune conditions may be great candidates for injectables to:

  • Give the nose a straighter appearance
  • Add fullness and shape to the lips
  • Contour the cheeks, chin, or jawline
  • Raise a low-lying brow line

How Do I Know Which Injectable Treatment Is Best For Me?

While it is important to consult with Dr. Jensen before deciding which treatment is best, the following information can provide you with an idea of how our injectables can help you achieve the look you want.

Injectables

Types Of Injectables

BOTOX® And Dysport®

How They Work: BOTOX and Dysport can smooth wrinkles and the outer layers of skin by temporarily weakening and relaxing the muscles around your eyes and forehead. Both are known to be effective at reversing the signs of aging, such as the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet, and more.

Differences Between Botox And Dysport

The reported differences are that Dysport may take effect faster than Botox and may spread to a broader area, requiring fewer injections.

Botox And Dysport Results

These injectables can take a day or two to start showing results and typically last 3-4 months.

Juvéderm, Restylane, Vobella And Voluma

How They Work: Juvéderm, Restylane, Vobella and Voluma are dermal fillers. With age, levels of hyaluronic acid decline, causing your skin to retain less moisture. This leads to volume loss and results in sagging and wrinkling skin.

What Are The Benefits Of Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers restore levels of hyaluronic acid, filling the space between collagen and elastin fibers to enhance your skin’s plumpness, filling in lines and wrinkles, and restoring your skin’s youthfulness.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

These dermal fillers typically have an instant effect, have a minimal recovery time, and vary in longevity, from 6 to 18 months.

Injectables

How to prepare for Injectable procedure?

Injectable treatment is very conservative. There are few risks and the side effects of the procedure are minimal when performed by a board-certified doctor or nurse. The primary concerns related to injectable treatments are bruising and swelling. To decrease these risks, patients may prepare for their appointment by avoiding medications that thin the blood. Examples include vitamin E and aspirin. It is also beneficial to avoid or limit alcohol consumption in the 24 hours before and after injectable treatment, as alcohol also has a blood-thinning effect.

Are Injectables Painful?

Tiny needles are used for Botox, resulting in very little pain and mild discomfort. Dermal fillers may cause minimal pain. Numbing is available at patient’s request for dermal fillers, but is not necessary.

What is the recovery process like after getting an Injectable or Filler?

One of the aspects of injectable treatments that patients appreciate the most is that there is no downtime. There may be a few activity restrictions for 24 to 48 hours, such as engaging in strenuous activities or getting other facial treatments. The restrictions that are advised do not have a major impact on daily life. Patients can go right back to work, provided that their job is not physically demanding, and may resume most of their day-to-day activities after getting injectable treatment.

What are the potential risks associated with getting an Injectable or Filler?

As conservative as injectable treatments are, it is imperative to trust only a board-certified doctor or nurse to administer this treatment. Our trained clinicians are familiar with facial anatomy, including the locations of blood vessels and nerves. With expert technique, a skilled provider can deposit active ingredients at the right level of the skin to avoid important anatomy. Receiving injectable treatment from an experienced injector significantly reduces the risk of complications such as hitting a blood vessel or nerve.

The most common side effects associated with injectable treatments are mild and temporary. These include pinpoint bleeding at injection sites, minor redness and swelling around injection points, and bruising. These side effects typically fade in a matter of hours.
