PRP Treatments

Aging causes several biological changes to occur, each of which can contribute to different concerns. The decline in collagen and circulation to the upper layers of the skin is one example. It’s one that we help our patients manage by offering a myriad of treatment options.

In addition to other proven techniques, we’re pleased to offer a variety of PRP treatments to address everything from fine lines and tissue laxity to a lackluster sex life. To learn more about our PRP treatments now, contact our Layton, UT office at 385-424-4567.

What is PRP Treatment?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. This is a byproduct of your blood, and it has numerous advantageous effects in the body. Doctors across different areas of medicine, including sports medicine and orthopedic surgery, have relied on the effects of platelet-rich plasma for several years. The reason is simple, PRP is a master tissue regenerator. It works via the synergistic effects of the following:

  • Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF). This growth factor is involved in cell replication and blood vessel regeneration.
  • Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b). This growth factor supports the matrix of tissue between cells.
  • Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). This growth factor is also involved in new blood vessel growth.
  • Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF). This growth factor supports collagen production and new blood vessel growth.
  • Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2). This growth factor is involved in the formation of new blood vessels as well as specialized cells.
  • Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF). This growth factor helps regulate healthy cellular physiology.

What Can PRP Treat?

With the many growth factors contained in platelet-rich plasma, this treatment can address numerous cosmetic and wellness concerns. We regularly use PRP injections and applications to treat the following:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Tissue laxity
  • Sun damage
  • Hair loss
  • Diminished sexual function in men and women (via the Fem Shot and P-Shot)

How Does PRP Help with Women’s Sexual Wellness?

In recent years, millions of women who’ve been living with frustrating sexual dysfunction or urinary incontinence have turned to PRP injections for help. This natural, hormone and surgery-free solution involves painless injections of platelet-rich plasma into the labia, the tissue around the clitoris, and the G-spot. The healing proteins and growth factors in PRP trigger blood flow and stem cell activity that help rejuvenate tissues that have lost resiliency and sensitivity.

Feminine PRP shots can achieve a number of benefits, including:

  • Improved sexual comfort
  • Increased clitoral stimulation
  • Better vaginal lubrication
  • Smoother, tighter labial and vulvar tissue
  • Reduced urinary incontinence

How Long Does it Take to Notice Results from the Fem Shot?

The Fem Shot PRP injection usually takes no more than 45 minutes from beginning to end. The injection portion of the appointment takes the least amount of time, just a couple of minutes. Before that time, you’ll sit comfortably with a topical numbing medication applied to the treatment area to temporary block pain receptors. After the procedure, you can go right back to your normal activities with zero downtime. You may start to notice some of the effects of your PRP shot within a week or two, such as a subtle increase in tissue sensitivity. The growth factors and increased circulation through the treated area continues for months, so you can expect to see more noticeable results 8 or more weeks after your first session.

Can PRP Also Help Men?

PRP isn’t just for women! All adults can find some benefit to these minor injectable treatments. Men tend to like PRP injections, referred to as the P-Shot, to address age-related symptoms of sexual dysfunction. These include:

  • Softer, weaker erections
  • Diminished sexual stamina
  • Decreased penile girth
  • Penile curvature caused by Peyronie’s Disease
  • Decreased sexual sensitivity

Like in other uses, the PRP in the P-Shot works by increasing circulation to the penile shaft, where erection relies on the entrapment of blood. The exponential increase in growth factors in the penis also supports tissue regeneration and repair, cellular regeneration and the formation of healthy new blood vessels.

How Does PRP Hair Restoration Work?

Hair loss can affect adults of all ages and for a number of different reasons. In many cases of early hair loss, we can reverse the effects by stimulating scalp health via PRP injections. This treatment fortifies the hair follicles through an infusion of growth factors that stimulate activity that has begun to go dormant. It can take several weeks to begin seeing a significant improvement in hair growth. However, once this occurs, the results can be maintained with periodic touch-ups.

Do PRP Treatments Hurt?

Rest assured our team will take the necessary measures to make you as comfortable as possible for your PRP injections. In most cases, the application of a generous amount of topical numbing cream works very well to blunt the majority of discomfort that may occur during these injections.

What’s in a PRP Shot?

Plasma is the liquid part of your blood that’s mostly made of water and protein. It lets red and white blood cells and platelets move through your bloodstream. Platelets are a type of blood cell that makes your blood clot. They also play a role in healing.

What we treat with PRP:

Hair injections, "Vampire Facial" with Microneedling, under eye injections, and sexual wellness injections for both men and women (to help with symptoms of aging and incontinence)

Immediately following the procedure, the most commonly reported temporary side effects are redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, tingling, numbness, lumpiness, and/or a feeling of pressure or fullness at the injection sites and/or in the treated area(s).

PRP Treatments

PRP injections are especially safe because they leverage your own plasma, which means that most people can receive platelet-rich therapy without any issue.
