Tightening Things Back Up

For most of us who don’t see Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat as a full-time job, topics such as vaginal rejuvenation probably wouldn’t make it into an average conversation.

But those levels of self-control wouldn’t apply to the Kardashians. Last spring on her vaunted reality show, Khloe Kardashian couldn’t stop talking about a vaginal “laser” treatment she had called ThermiVa.

She did have the name right, but she had the energy source all wrong. ThermiVa is a non-invasive vaginal tightening procedure, but it uses radiofrequency energy to achieve the skin tightening results, not the light energy supplied by lasers.

Dr. Jensen offers ThermiVa at his practice.

Why vaginal rejuvenation?

A woman’s tissues in her vagina can become relaxed after vaginal childbirth and due to simple aging. This laxity can diminish sensation during intercourse, reduce sexual satisfaction, and affect relationships. Vaginal rejuvenation can tighten tissues back up.

How does ThermiVa work?

Collagen provides the skin’s underlying support structure. As we age, the body’s production of collagen declines more every year. Collagen in the vaginal area is no different; it is key to firmness. When radiofrequency energy is applied into the dermis, the skin’s second layer, the body responds as if wounded, producing more collagen to “heal” the wound. When existing collagen is heated, the molecules contract, remodeling and reorganizing the molecular network, both tightening the skin and encouraging new collagen to be produced.

The procedure

With ThermiVa, a small wand applicator is used to deliver the radiofrequency energy both to the interior walls of the vagina and to the external labia and other tissues. This energy delivery is non-invasive and there isn’t any downtime. ThermiVa delivers a warm, but not painful, sensation when the radiofrequency energy is delivered. Once delivered, it immediately begins tightening the interior and exterior tissues. The effects last for around two years, at which point the ThermiVa procedure can be done again.

You don’t have to live with decreased sensitivity in your vagina. ThermiVa can be a great procedure for you. Call Dr. Jensen at (801) 728-9258 to schedule a consultation.
