Cosmetic injectables, including BOTOX and dermal fillers, are among the most popular aesthetic treatments worldwide, and it's easy to see why — they deliver real results.
Since BOTOX received FDA approval in 2002, it has become a trusted solution for smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, particularly on the upper third of the face. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, restore lost volume and enhance facial contours, helping you look more youthful.
Dr. Joseph Jensen, DO FACOS, is a board-certified general surgeon with nearly 20 years of experience. He leads our highly skilled team of master aestheticians and nurse injectors at Elevation Aesthetics. Together, they ensure that each treatment meets your aesthetic goals.
What Are Injectables?
It eventually happens to all of us: lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin start to appear as we age. It can make us look older on the outside than how we feel inside. That’s why Dr. Joseph Jensen offers the latest in injectable treatments.
Injectables can be divided into two main categories: neuromodulators and dermal fillers.
Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators relax facial muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles caused by facial expressions. They each typically last three to six months. We offer the following options:
- BOTOX®: Reduces crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines.
- Dysport®: Similar to BOTOX, but may spread more broadly, requiring fewer injections.
- Xeomin®: A pure form of botulinum toxin, ideal for those who may be resistant to other neuromodulators.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers restore lost volume, smooth deeper wrinkles, and give your face better contours. Our dermal fillers include:
- Juvéderm®: Adds volume to areas like lips and nasolabial folds, lasting up to a year.
- Restylane®: Treats wrinkles and lips. Can last six to 18 months.
- Volbella®: Softens fine lines and enhances lips with subtle results.
- Voluma®: Adds volume to the cheeks and jawline, providing a lifted appearance for up to two years.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Injectables and Fillers?
Many adults aged 18 and over in good general health are great candidates for injectable treatments. You should not be pregnant, nursing, allergic to ingredients in injectable products, or have certain autoimmune conditions.
Neuromodulators and dermal fillers are not only used as anti-aging treatments. Fillers can help bring more contour and interest to the face, and BOTOX is even FDA-approved to treat medical conditions like chronic migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms. If you’re looking to address any of these issues, injectables could be right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Prepare for My Injectable Treatment?
Injectable treatments are very conservative. The primary concerns are bruising and swelling. Patients may prepare for their appointment by avoiding blood-thinning medications (like vitamin E and aspirin). It’s also beneficial to avoid or limit alcohol consumption in the 24 hours before and after injectable treatment, as alcohol also has a blood-thinning effect.
Are Injectables Painful?
Injectable treatments like BOTOX and dermal fillers are performed with very fine needles, causing minimal discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a small pinprick. Numbing creams or ice packs can be used to further reduce any discomfort, especially for dermal fillers. The procedure is generally quick and well-tolerated by most patients.
Are Injectables Permanent?
No, the types of injectables that we use in our offices are not permanent. The advantage of temporary results is that the more conservative technique can be easier to manage. If you don’t love your results, you don’t have to live with them for long.
What Are the Benefits of Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers restore levels of hyaluronic acid, filling the space between collagen and elastin fibers to enhance your skin’s plumpness, filling in lines and wrinkles, and restoring your skin’s youthfulness.
What Is the Recovery Like After Getting an Injectable or Filler?
One of the aspects of injectable treatments that patients appreciate the most is that there is no downtime. There may be a few activity restrictions for 24 to 48 hours, such as engaging in strenuous activities or getting other facial treatments.
Patients can go right back to work, provided that their job is not physically demanding, and may resume most of their day-to-day activities after getting injectable treatment.
What Are the Potential Risks Associated With Injectables or Fillers?
Injectable treatments are generally safe, but it’s important to have them administered by a board-certified doctor or nurse. Our trained clinicians know the facial anatomy well, including where blood vessels and nerves are located, which helps them avoid any complications.
The most common side effects are mild and temporary. These can include minor bleeding, redness, swelling, or bruising around the injection sites, which usually fade within a few hours.
