What is Opus Plasma?

Opus Plasma is made by Alma, a leader in laser technology for the aesthetic industry. Opus Plasma is the first fractional plasma technology on the market. In skin resurfacing, first came CO2 laser resurfacing, followed by fractional laser resurfacing, and now fractional plasma resurfacing.

The Opus Plasma system operates at a high frequency (over 40 MHz), which charges the metal pins on its tips to a high radiofrequency voltage. When close to the skin, it reacts with atmospheric pressure in the air to create plasma-like energy. This makes for effective skin resurfacing, with much less recovery or downtime.

How is Opus Plasma fractional resurfacing superior to laser fractional resurfacing?

Original CO2 laser resurfacing was quite ablative, dictating a lengthy recovery period. Laser fractional resurfacing lessened those effects dramatically but couldn’t always deliver the same degree of skin rejuvenation. Now, Opus Plasma skin resurfacing can achieve results similar to the most aggressive CO2 laser or the gentlest fractional laser in just a fraction of the procedure time, all with much less patient downtime.

The system is highly versatile, being able to adjust for different areas of the face and different levels of aggressiveness. The Opus platform also has different handpieces, the widest option can treat the entire face in just 10 minutes, while the small option is perfect for sensitive areas such as under the eyes, which can be very difficult to treat with most laser skin rejuvenation treatments.

Who is a good candidate for Opus Plasma treatments?

These treatments are easy to take, requiring little, if any, recovery or downtime. That makes Opus fractional plasma treatments great for just about anyone.

What skin problems does Opus Plasma Skin Resurfacing improve?

At Dr. Jensen’s, we’re addressing all of these skin conditions without the pain, redness, and swelling associated with various laser treatments:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin laxity
  • Uneven tone
  • Unwanted pigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne scarring

How does Opus Plasma Skin Resurfacing work?

This is how this exciting new skin rejuvenation platform delivers its awesome results for our patients:

  • Operating at a high frequency of over 40MHz, the metal pins on the Opus Plasma handpiece are supercharged with high voltage.
  • When these pins become in close proximity to the skin, the charged pins react to atmospheric pressure in the air. This creates plasma that then creates the microthermal zones of fractional injuries to the skin.
  • The system can be customized to deliver different energy levels to address different skincare concerns. Because of this versatility, Opus Plasma can be used on the face, neck, décolleté, hands, stomach, and other areas.

How many Opus Plasma treatments will I need?

This is a new platform, only coming on the market at the beginning of 2020, so it’s new to our practice. We are seeing incredible results after just a single Opus treatment. For maximum rejuvenation, we’re recommending 3-4 treatments. These sessions should be spaced from one to four weeks apart. Once patients achieve the rejuvenation they’re seeking, a maintenance Opus Plasma treatment every six months or so maintains your results.

Are Opus Plasma treatments painful? What is the downtime?

We apply pharmaceutical-grade topical numbing cream prior to your treatment, so you’ll only feel a mild heat sensation and some slight pressure during your Opus treatment. Afterward, the treatment areas will have some redness, as if you have a mild sunburn, but you can return to your normal activities immediately after leaving our Layton office.

Moving forward, you need to protect your skin from sun exposure for two weeks after your Opus Plasma session.

Is there any preparation necessary before an Opus Plasma treatment?

Hydration is important prior to these sessions. You should up your normal intake of water for three or four days prior to your session. That’s it.

Is Opus Plasma Skin Resurfacing effective for all skin types and tones?

Unlike laser resurfacing, which can cause hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones, Opus Plasma is effective and safe for all skin types and tones.
