What is Facial Rejuvenation?
Facial Rejuvenation consists of innovative, non-surgical technology for skin tightening, removing wrinkles, and safely targeting hyperpigmentation in your skin that results in age spots, melasma, and brown spots. Using our Cynosure Laser with its light-based aesthetic technology, your unwanted pigment quickly absorbs optimized light particles that break it up and slough it off naturally. Facial Rejuvenation gives your face noticeable effects, renewing your youthful self-image again.
What are the benefits of the Cynosure Laser for facial rejuvenation?
The Cynosure Laser has dual wavelengths of laser energy. That allows us to treat both facial skin aging and the development of pigmented spots with the same laser. For skin rejuvenation, the Cynosure delivers energy more deeply. This penetrates the epidermis and enters the dermis layer. For age spots and other dark pigmentated areas, we match the Cynosure wavelength to the color in the melanin of your spots. This doesn’t penetrate as deeply, so the energy is absorbed by the melanin in the spots.
For our patients, we love how our Cynosure Laser delivers great results for different skin issues.
Are there risks with Cynosure Laser rejuvenation treatments?
These treatments at Dr. Jensen’s practice are completely non-invasive. The only energy involved is laser light energy, but the levels are safe and do not damage the skin. The goal is to penetrate the skin into the dermis or into the age/sun spots. There is little to no risk with these procedures.
As mentioned above, after these treatments, your skin has dramatically less protection against the sun’s UV rays. So, for at least a few weeks, you’ll need to wear 30+ SPF sunscreen and protective clothing. This is something you should do anyway, as sun damage is the main cause behind the reasons you’ve just had these treatments!
Who is a good candidate for these laser skin rejuvenation treatments?
Everyone over the age of 40 is a good candidate for these treatments. Living in Utah with our high altitude and ample sunshine, just about every one of us has some degree of sun damage on our facial skin. Couple sun damage with declining collagen production and you have the recipe for sunken cheeks, jowls, volume decrease around the mouth, sagging neck skin, thinning lips, and the other hallmarks of an aging face. Plus, that sun damage has created age spots and areas of darker pigmentation.
All of these conditions can be improved dramatically with our Cynosure Laser treatments. Plus, they’re non-invasive and don’t require any recovery. What’s not to love?
How Do Facial Rejuvenation Treatments Work?
As we age, the collagen and elastin that form our facial support structure decrease and weaken in our skin, forming wrinkles and fine lines. Using our proven facial rejuvenation procedure, your face receives powerful laser facial technology to stimulate collagen and elastin production. With a unique combination of leading-edge technologies, our laser facial targets all three layers of your skin tissue, giving you improved tone and texture while minimizing wrinkles and smoothing away fine lines around your mouth and eyes. Our skin rejuvenating procedures can help you get the fresh appearance you crave!
What is the laser rejuvenation procedure?
We start by asking you about the areas you’re looking to address. Fine lines and wrinkles? Skin tone and texture? Sagging skin? Age spots? Hyperpigmented areas? Once we have your goals, we set the Cynosure wavelength to target them.
For laser skin rejuvenation, we want the energy to penetrate the epidermis and enter the dermis layer of the skin. When the laser energy enters the dermis, it converts to heat. If the body senses heat in this second layer of the skin, it assumes there has been a wound. The response is to “heal” the wound, although there actually isn’t one. The healing mechanism is twofold. First, it remodels the existing collagen and elastin in the treatment area. This is the immediate wound-healing response. More important, however, is the second initiation of the production of new collagen and elastin to send to the area to repair the perceived wound. Since collagen is the protein responsible for providing the structural framework under the skin, this increase in collagen production tightens the skin over the coming months, erasing fine lines and wrinkles, firming texture, and improving skin tone.
For age spots, sun spots, and areas of hyperpigmentation, we don’t want the Cynosure Laser energy to penetrate as deeply. Here, we set the wavelength, not for depth, but to match the melanin in your unwanted dark spots. We then deliver the laser energy onto the spots or hyperpigmented areas. The melanin in these areas absorbs the laser energy, and this energy causes the melanin to break apart. The body then sloughs off these broken-down cells and replaces the darkened cells with undamaged new skin cells. This removes or dramatically lightens the dark spot.
What Our Patients Have to Say
“I am impressed by his attention to detail, ensuring that I felt comfortable during the procedure. His staff was delightful. Kristy was tentative to my needs.
Even after the procedure Dr. Jensen and Kristy made me feel calm and comfortable and made sure as I left the office I had all the information I needed for aftercare.
I highly recommend Dr. Jensen!” -Monique B.
What results can laser rejuvenation achieve?
Your age spots and sunspots will darken initially after your treatment. This can be disconcerting, but this simply means the melanin has absorbed the laser energy and has been damaged. This means the melanin will break up and the body will absorb the darkened skin cells, replacing them with undamaged cells that match your natural skin color. This occurs over the course of a few weeks.
For skin rejuvenation, the laser energy creates instant remodeling of the collagen and elastin at the treatment sites. This creates some skin tightening, but the real long-term effects take a few weeks, as the body produces new collagen and sends it to the treatment sites to heal the perceived wounds (although there aren’t any). Your body will produce new collagen for a period of months, and this will tighten and improve your skin. To maintain these effects, it’s good to schedule continuing maintenance treatments. This keeps the ramped-up collagen production going, which gives you tighter, firmer skin with fewer wrinkles and fine lines.
What is the Recovery process after laser treatments?
Our laser treatments leave the skin slightly reddened and feeling a bit like you have a mild sunburn. This usually lasts for just a day or two. These treatments are not ablative, so there isn’t recovery time to let your epidermis heal. Your skin will be more sensitive to sun exposure for a few weeks, however, so you’ll need to be sure to wear sunscreen and protective clothing.
