Microneedling, also known as skin needling or collagen induction therapy, is a procedure using a device covered with tiny, shallow needles to essentially poke holes in the skin’s surface. There are two types of devices: one is a roller, the other a pen device. Numbing cream is applied to ensure comfort and then the device is applied in random patterns over the entire face (except the delicate eye tissue). The tiny needles puncture the skin. Pin point bleeding is a sign of it’s effectiveness, so don’t be afraid when this happens! The tiny punctures alert the body’s restorative responses, which is shown to create an increase in collagen and elastin production. Immediately following the procedure, the treated area will be hot and red, like a mild sunburn. There’s no need to schedule down time, however. You may peel slightly – no need to worry. The redness will fade over the next few days revealing vibrant, tighter, younger looking skin!
